What filtration options does Aqualux offer, and how do they differ?

Aqualux offers two main options: the Flow showerhead (replaces your entire showerhead and contains the most KDF 55 media) and the original shower filter (attaches between the tap and hose and adds vitamin C to neutralize chlorine). Choose Flow when you want to upgrade your showerhead and maximize heavy metal removal; the original if you want help specifically with dry hair and skin while keeping your current showerhead.

What impurities do the filters remove, and how has their effectiveness been verified?

Laboratory tests on the Flow Showerhead show up to 99% chlorine reduction and 98–99% lead reduction. It also reduces iron, VOC compounds, turbidity particles, and E. coli bacteria. Fluoride and nitrates are not removed — these require a reverse osmosis system.

How does the filter help blonde/dry hair and dry skin?

Chlorine in shower water can oxidize the natural lipids in hair and skin, which may dry out hair and make skin feel tight. Iron and copper residues on the other hand attach to blonde pigments and cause yellowing.

 

KDF-55 acts as a double shield: it converts free chlorine into harmless chloride and reduces heavy metals, preventing iron and copper from being absorbed into the hair shaft.

 

Calcium sulfite neutralizes residual chlorine in a fraction of a second, so water droplets don't have time to dry out skin or open hair cuticles.

 

Activated carbon adsorbs trihalomethanes, pesticides, pharmaceutical residues, and other VOC compounds that can irritate the scalp and cause odor issues.

 

Our customers have described the following effects: hair retains its natural moisture, blonde hair stays bright without a yellow tint, and static and breakage are reduced. Skin feels softer and less tight because the protective lipid barrier is no longer being stripped away in the shower.

Does the filter remove bacteria and viruses?

It depends on which model you choose.

 

Flow showerhead: KDF-55 creates a redox reaction that breaks down bacterial cell walls and prevents biofilm formation inside the showerhead. However, the pore size is too large to completely stop viruses.


If you want full virus protection for drinking water, combine the tap filter with a reverse osmosis (RO) or UV system. For shower use, KDF filtration and hot water are sufficient for most users — as long as cartridges are replaced according to the recommended schedule.

When should you use both the Original Shower Filter and the Flow Shower Head?

Using two filters makes sense in most situations — especially when:

  • Your plumbing is particularly old or rusty
  • Your household tap water is heavily chlorinated
  • Someone in the family has bleached or chemically treated hair, sensitive skin, or atopic dermatitis
  • You want to extend the time between cartridge changes (the load is distributed across two cartridges)
  • Or you simply want to invest in the best possible filtration for the health of your hair and skin, as many of our customers do

Are Aqualux filters compatible with all shower systems?

The Flow and original shower filter use a universal thread found in nearly all European hand shower hoses and mixers. If your showerhead is a fixed rain shower in the ceiling, the original filter can be installed between the tap and the overhead pipe, though this will slightly lower the rain shower's height.

 

In most homes, the filter attaches straight out of the box. If needed, the included seals or adapters make installation leak-proof in just a few minutes. If the filter cannot be attached, contact our customer service and we'll refund your money.

Does the filter reduce water pressure or flow?

Flow typically remains at a normal level. If your home's pressure is already low, the original filter creates slightly less resistance than the Flow Shower Head, but the difference is usually completely unnoticeable.

How is the filter installed?

Detailed installation instructions can be found in the product package manual or in the email you receive after purchase. Below is a summary of the installation instructions for each product.

 

Flow Shower Head:

  1. Unscrew your current hand showerhead from the hose.
  2. Screw Flow onto the hose. Turn clockwise until it feels snug — no tools needed.
  3. Turn on the tap and check that the connection doesn't leak.
  4. Flush with cold water for 30 seconds before use.

Original Shower Filter:

  1. Unscrew the shower hose from the shower mixer.
  2. Place the shower filter between the tap and the hose.
  3. Tighten both connections by hand; if needed, a soft cloth provides extra grip.
  4. Flush with cold water for 30 seconds before use.

Is Teflon tape needed for installation?

Generally we recommend using teflon tape when installing the Original Shower Filter. 

 

For Flow, the included silicone seal is usually sufficient. Teflon tape can be used if the thread is worn, but it's not required.

How often should the cartridge be replaced?

A single shower filter can handle approximately 13,000 liters of water, which means: 

 

3 months for a 3-person household 

4 months for a 2-person household 

5 months for a 1-person household

How do I know when the cartridge needs to be replaced?

You'll recognize it from signs such as:

  • The chlorine smell or metallic taste in the water returns.
  • Hair feels rough, color turns yellow, or skin feels tight right after showering.
  • Flow decreases — a sign that the tap filter's UF membrane has filled with particles.
  • The activated carbon in the Flow cartridge darkens noticeably or the KDF granules turn gray.

When even one sign appears, replace the cartridge immediately — saturated media not only lets impurities through but may also release them back into the water.

How is the cartridge replaced?

Replacing the filter is simple. Remove the filter, unscrew the housing, replace the cartridge, and flush with cold water for 30 seconds. Detailed instructions can be found in the manual inside the product package.

Can the filter parts be washed or recycled?

The housing can handle gentle washing, but washing the replacement filter is prohibited.

 

Cartridge → general waste 

Metal shells → metal recycling 

Packaging → cardboard/plastic

Does the filter reduce limescale?

It might soften the water slightly, so limescale comes off more easily, but it doesn't completely remove hardness in hard water areas.

 

How quickly will I see results?

Based on our customers' experiences:

 

First few days – The chlorine smell in the water decreases immediately and skin may feel less tight after showering.

 

1–2 weeks – Many of our customers report that their hair feels softer at this stage; tangling and static may decrease because chlorine is no longer opening the hair cuticles.

 

3–4 weeks – At this point, our customers often report noticing that the shade of blonde or color-treated hair stays bright: iron and copper residues no longer cause yellowing. Scalp itching and dandruff may also decrease as the microbiome returns to a more natural balance.

Does the filter help with controlling dandruff and other scalp issues?

Chlorine-free water may calm the scalp's microbiome; dandruff or excess dryness and oiliness may ease, and the time between washes can often be extended.

Does the filter reduce hair breakage and hair loss?

We can't promise that, but some of our customers have reported seeing less loose hair in their brush after a few months of use.

Can the filter help with atopic skin?

Many people with atopic dermatitis find that itching and redness improve, but the device does not replace a doctor's treatment instructions.

How quickly will I receive my order?

We pack products at our warehouse in Finland usually on the same day the order is placed, but at the latest within two business days. For European customers, the package typically arrives ready for pickup at the chosen pickup point within 3–6 business days.

What does the 100-day satisfaction guarantee cover? What kind of warranty applies after that?

You can get your money back any reason within 100 days. Just reach out to our support team — they'll action your request and the money will be sent to your bank account in 2-3 business days.

 

Our 2-year warranty covers manufacturing and material defects. If the product breaks during normal use within two years, it will be replaced with a new one or repaired free of charge.

Can I order replacement cartridges automatically?

Currenlty we've decided not to tie anyone to a subscription, but our product bundles offer the best discounts.

Where are the products designed and manufactured?

Our products are designed in Finland. Mass production takes place at a carefully selected ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified factory in China that specializes in water filtration technology and uses strictly tested and safe filter materials.

What do I do if my discount code doesn't work?
